I’ve always found Disney to be the pinnacle of depicting emotion. It was what I grew up with and matured me.
It feels weird saying that. Probably looks weird reading it.
I’ve always had a special attachment to Toy Story. I saw Toy Story as the movie of ‘inclusion’. It presented life’s struggles - trying to make everybody happy, looking out for one another and avoiding the problems you never want to face.
But recently, I’ve taken interest in another series that was big when I was ‘too cool for Disney’.
Cars. Criminally underrated series and if you haven’t seen it, watch it.
Let me set the scene.
Radiator Springs.
You may have heard of Radiator Springs.
It’s the quaint rural town that saw the rebirth of the legendary Lightning McQueen.
Lightning McQueen found Radiator Springs because he fell out of Mack Hauler, the truck that was transporting him from race to race.
Similarly, we as people, can get lost and fall off the path of what we know and expect and end up in a completely different environment, feeling scared, angry and confused.
But.
Sometimes, there is a reason. It provides opportunity for new experiences, connections, emotions, and growth.
The beauty of this, we don’t know when we need it.
We see obstacles and change as roadblocks, the process of moving backward. But what if we saw it as redirection.
Lightning McQueen was a successful race car, tipped to win the famous Piston Cup. In the process, he lost touch with his humility (even though he is a race car). He sought validation through winning races and being known as the fastest car on the circuit.
When Lightning McQueen stumbled into Radiator Springs, he felt lost and felt as if he deserved more as he didn’t fit in with the society that lived at Radiator Springs.
But here, he redefined purpose and established to see life through a different headlight.
He learnt the importance of relationships, connections and most importantly not to stress in a time of change.
We all have our own Radiator Springs. The place where we feel that if we are there, then we aren’t doing great. The matter of fact is, if we are in our own Radiator Springs then perhaps, we are exactly where we need to be.
We meet people we didn’t know we needed to meet. The relationships that made us realise maybe we don’t know it all and we aren’t perfect.
Maybe you’ve already been to your Radiator Springs or you’re here to help someone in theirs or even still, you’re yet to stumble into yours.
Wherever it may be. Embrace change, approach it with integrity, a strong heart and an open mind.
So maybe we don’t get lost.
Maybe these experiences are a form of redirection.
But, sometimes we can help each other be found.
BRINGING IT HOME
This famous quote from the legendary Doc Hudson, 3 time Piston Cup winner said:
“if you're goin' hard enough left, you'll find yourself turnin' right.”
Take life as it comes. Enjoy the ride.
The coolest thing about Disney?
It’ll never be too cool for you.
